Three Investments to Honor God

God put the word “investment” on my mind this week and I wanted to talk about that with you all. One of the definitions of investment provides a wonderful description of what Heritage families exude with their children: “an act of devoting time, effort, or energy to a particular undertaking with the expectation of a worthwhile result.” I, among you all, am honored to invest in my children. In our children's educational experience, our Heritage families have chosen to offer their children their time, efforts, and energy for the glory of God. I want to encourage you all to invest in your children through prayer, the memorization of scripture, and the continuation of homeschooling.

We should all pray for our children and petition the Lord to protect and bless their lives, giving God every aspect of our investment in our children. The Lord has provided us the gift of children and is entrusting us to train them up in accordance with His ways. Family prayer is one of many ways we can glorify God. Whether it be a prayer before bedtime, before a meal, before an activity or a road trip, our children are watching and listening to us as parents and how we pray to God. I want to encourage us all to invest our time, energy, and effort into teaching our children the importance of prayer and having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

Another way we can invest in our children for the glory of God is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to memorize scripture, whether it be writing scripture verses on flash cards, daily devotionals, and even in song. It’s been a true joy for me to see my children singing scripture around the house. As we keep the Word of God in our hearts, we are able to apply those truths into our lives and in the lives of others.

Finally, we have all chosen to invest in homeschooling. This investment is two-part: a spiritual investment and a financial investment. The spiritual investment is what we have talked about in the above paragraphs; giving our time, effort, and energy to our children for the glory of God. This homeschooling investment is something that my wife, Allissa, and I hold near and dear to our hearts. Occasionally my passion for a spiritual investment through homeschooling is sometimes conflicted with the financial side of investing in our children’s education. Curriculum can be expensive and initially overwhelming. Although there is a financial cost to homeschooling, I am constantly reminded that this is an investment into the lives of our children to ensure that they are provided with an education that offers the flexibility and authority to teach about God, His love, and our calling to serve Him.

We have all chosen Heritage Christian because we wanted to invest in our children's lives. May God continue to give us the time, effort, and energy to invest in our children for His glory. God bless you all.
