The nomination period is currently closed.

Board Member Nomination Process

The Board Nomination process can be summarized as follows: Members submit Board Nominations during a nomination period. Those nominations are then turned over to a Nomination Committee comprised of a former Board member, the Principal, and current or past members of our volunteer leadership team. Together, this committee meets with qualified nominees and then passes along their recommendations to the full Board. The Board will then proceed to interview potential candidates based on the committee’s recommendations.

The nomination process runs from January 29th through February 28th with the goal of completing the Nomination Committee meetings by March 11th and the Board interviews by the end of March.

Please send your nominations to HCSboard@hcssd.org and principal@hcssd.org. You do not need to confirm the interest of the nominee to submit their name (though you are certainly welcome to do so). The committee will reach out and let the nominee know they have been nominated and determine whether or not they want to proceed.

Your role as members is absolutely vital in this process. We are looking to you to bring forth men who you believe share our passion and vision for Heritage Christian School. We hope that you will take some time to think through at least one or two nominations. Self-nominations are also welcomed.

HCS Men's Golf Tournament

Congratulations to Darren Jones, Jake Womack, and Leo Acosta for winning the “HCS Men’s Golf Tournament” held March 25, 2023 at Admiral Baker Golf Course in San Diego.

Sponsored by the HCS Board, the golf tournament was a time of fellowship for HCS dads and a fundraiser for the HCS Tuition Relief Fund.

The Board will be planning some more casual men’s events in the future, including some "golf for fun” and prayer breakfasts.

Leo Acosta was born and raised in Los Angeles and he met the love of his life, Laura, at a church camp there in 1998. They have been happily married for 19 years now and are blessed with 5 beautiful children - Sophia, Dalia, Mia, Lincoln, and Julia. They will be beginning their eleventh year homeschooling this year and have enjoyed being part of Heritage since 2013.

Although they didn’t imagine themselves homeschooling their children at the beginning, they chose to do it at first just because they didn’t like the schools in their neighborhood at the time. However, over time and once they began to see the amazing benefits for their children, their relationships, and their family as a whole, they soon realized that it was the will of God for their lives to educate their children at home. They are extremely grateful to God for this freedom.

Professionally, Leo is a middle school counselor and has enjoyed guiding students academically and supporting them socially and emotionally for the past 15 years.

KENT GOBLE

Vice-Chairman
Kent Goble and wife, Charmin, have been married for 21 years. She is his rock and his life's true love from the first moment that they met. The Lord has blessed them with three children - Nehemiah, Magdelyn and Abigail.

They completely committed to homeschooling their children beginning in 2008, starting their journey at Heritage Christian School which continues to this present day. It is hard to count the many blessings that Heritage and homeschooling have brought to their lives. They are so grateful to God that the Homeschool community has been preserved and has allowed them to raise their children in the admonition of the Lord. The importance of God being the cornerstone of their day to day schooling has cemented HIS presence in science, math, history, language, and most importantly, LIFE, for their family - this truly has been priceless.

Aaron and Nicole Kemp have been married for 14 amazing years and have grown in love for the Lord and each other during that time. They have been blessed with 3 wonderful children: Gregory, Victoria, and Katherine.

Together, Aaron and Nicole have committed themselves to homeschooling their children from the start, and have opted for the classical education model. Having both experienced public school, Aaron with private school and Nicole with homeschool, they envisioned that for their family, homeschooling was the clear best option to suit their goals and also provide a wonderful gift that they can give to their children. Nicole is professionally trained as an attorney (Oak Brook College of Law) but has since transitioned into a home educator role and part-time voice/piano teacher, which she does from her home studio. She also sings for the church choir as a soprano.

Aaron has worked for his entire career (22 years) at UCSD Medical Center, as both a database manager and business intelligence developer. He currently works full-time remotely for the Quality & Population Health reporting team, under the division of Information Services, and he enjoys being able to pass down his technical expertise to his son, Gregory.

As a family, the Kemp’s enjoy singing, road-tripping, camping, swimming, and playing tennis. They have been vacationing in the Pacific Northwest for the past five years, during all seasons of the year, where they have established many more wonderful friendships. They feel blessed to live in San Diego near their extended families and are also very grateful for their church family at Shadow Mountain Community Church.

Mike Sedgwick and his wife Sarah have been married for 21 years. They have two sons, Calvin and Duncan, and have homeschooled through HCS for ten years, since their oldest was in Kindergarten. Some of our closest family friends have come through our involvement in Heritage. Calvin and Duncan have been involved in various class days, and just this year started HCS Academy and Bonita Class Day. They have also been involved in basketball, band, sixth grade events, and field trips.

Mike is the Senior Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Escondido. He has a communications degree from Whitworth University and a Masters of Divinity from Fuller Seminary.

Mike and Sarah feel blessed by God to be able to homeschool and are so grateful for the Heritage services and community that has helped make home education not only possible for them, but a joy. They love being able to guide and build their sons up in faith, character, and academics at home and in the community of other Christ-centered homeschool families.

Brett Sipes and his wife Noel, have been married for over 21 years. They met in church and were friends first before becoming life-long partners. Together, they have four children; Gabe, Anna, Ethan, and Olivia. Throughout their marriage, they have had many challenges, but God's grace has been sufficient and brought them through some very difficult times.

Brett's experience with homeschooling started in the 80's when he was homeschooled from 3rd grade to 12th grade before there were many organizations like Heritage. Prior to joining the HCS community, Brett & Noel's children attended private Christian schools but in 2019, his wife Noel felt God's call to homeschool. They feel blessed to have their children be part of the community at Heritage where their children can experience friendships with other like-minded families and participate in many programs such as volleyball, softball, band, drama and surf club.

Professionally, Brett is a CPA and is currently a Managing Director with Global Tax Network ("GTN"), a global mobility tax services firm that provides global tax consulting and compliance for corporate mobility programs and mobile employees. Prior to joining GTN in 2006, Brett also worked at KPMG and EY for over 8 years. Brett graduated from the University of Northwestern - St. Paul with a Bachelor's in Science and double majored in Accounting and Bible.

Jake and Allissa Womack have been married for 9 wonderful years and have seen God direct and orchestrate their lives for His glory. They are truly each other's best friends and love to share each moment and stage of life with each other. They have been blessed with 3 amazing children: Colton, Ellie, and Andrew.

Together, Jake and Allissa have committed themselves to homeschooling their children. Both being products of public school, Allissa in Davison, MI and Jake in San Diego, CA, they recognize and understand the importance of parents taking on the responsibility of teaching their children. Allissa was a kindergarten teacher, but has since answered the Lord’s call for her to teach her own children and to ensure that they receive a Christ-centered education. They are starting their second year with Heritage Christian Schools.

Jake has been a credentialed English teacher for San Diego Unified for 14 years and has seen first hand the positives and negatives of public school. Jake is currently the Dean of Students at an A-Typical school within SDUSD, and he sees the role of the family being active in a student's education more important than ever before.

As a family, the Womack’s enjoy camping, swimming, traveling, Little League, golf, bike riding, and many other outdoor activities. They drive to Michigan every summer to spend quality time with Allissa’s family and they enjoy stopping throughout the country to explore exciting places. They are blessed to call San Diego their home and have gained lifelong friendships through their church and through Heritage Christian.
