For information about the qualifications and duties of Board members, please go to the member's password-protected area of the website, enter the passcode, and locate the Bylaws (under Documents).
The Board Nomination process can be summarized as follows: Members submit Board Nominations during a nomination period. Those nominations are then turned over to a Nomination Committee comprised of a former Board member, the Principal, and current or past members of our volunteer leadership team. Together, this committee meets with qualified nominees and then passes along their recommendations to the full Board. The Board will then proceed to interview potential candidates based on the committee’s recommendations.
The nomination process runs from January 29th through February 28th with the goal of completing the Nomination Committee meetings by March 11th and the Board interviews by the end of March.
Please send your nominations to HCSboard@hcssd.org and principal@hcssd.org. You do not need to confirm the interest of the nominee to submit their name (though you are certainly welcome to do so). The committee will reach out and let the nominee know they have been nominated and determine whether or not they want to proceed.
Your role as members is absolutely vital in this process. We are looking to you to bring forth men who you believe share our passion and vision for Heritage Christian School. We hope that you will take some time to think through at least one or two nominations. Self-nominations are also welcomed.
The HCS Board of Directors meets monthly at 6pm. The locations alternate between The school office on odd months and Del Cerro Baptist Church on even months. Check the school calendar for the exact date. Members may attend general board meetings; kindly RSVP to HCSboard@hcssd.org if you will be attending.
To discuss a specific issue (other than what is on the agenda for the night already) please submit your request in advance to HCSboard@hcssd.org to be placed on the agenda for a future meeting.
Congratulations to Darren Jones, Jake Womack, and Leo Acosta for winning the “HCS Men’s Golf Tournament” held March 25, 2023 at Admiral Baker Golf Course in San Diego.
Sponsored by the HCS Board, the golf tournament was a time of fellowship for HCS dads and a fundraiser for the HCS Tuition Relief Fund.
The Board will be planning some more casual men’s events in the future, including some "golf for fun” and prayer breakfasts.
Michael and Sarah Francis have been married for over 27 years and have four children. Michael grew up in the midwest, mostly in the Saint Louis area and attended Truman State University in Kirksville, MO where he studied Theatre and met Sarah. After getting married and graduating Michael and Sarah moved to California to work at various professional theatres. He later joined UCSD Department of Theatre and Dance and has worked there ever since. He is currently the Chief Administrative Officer for the department.
Michael and Sarah began homeschooling in 2014 when they realized the public school system was leaving a lot to be desired. Over the years they have tried various systems of home school and became a part of Heritage in 2023.
Michael and his family enjoy hiking, traveling, camping and playing games and he is not afraid of dressing up and participating in a murder mystery dinner party.

Ian and Casey Fraser have been married for 23 years, and they have four children: Avery, June, Ryland, and Samuel. They deeply cherish the life God has given them. Whether enjoying quiet moments at home or exploring San Diego, life together is full and rewarding, offering countless opportunities to grow together as a family. The Frasers have been actively involved with HCS for nearly 14-years and have participated in several class days, the HCS Academies and a multiplicity of school activities and clubs. Many of their closest relationships have come through their involvement in HCS and they feel a deep connection to this homeschooling community.
Ian has a degree in Biology from Point Loma Nazarene University and has spent 25-years working as a research scientist in San Diego.
Ian has a strong passion for education and believes in lifelong learning. Homeschooling with HCS has offered his family an excellent learning experience that can be tailored to best fit each child’s interests, and learning style. With homeschooling, Ian believes that parents can foster a safe, focused environment that promotes academic excellence, critical thinking, and strong family bonds—ultimately preparing students for real-world success and building a strong Christian foundation in the process.
Ian’s Christian faith is the bedrock of who he is - it shapes his values, decisions, and brings purpose to his life. It’s something he strives to live out every day, and he feels a strong passion to build his family up in the wisdom and knowledge of the Lord. His greatest desire is that they know the love of God, find their hope in Jesus Christ, and develop their own relationship with Christ to carry His truth into the world with courage and compassion.

Andy and his wife, Emily, have been married for over 22 years. Their four children — Michael, Kathryn, Evelyn, and Eliza — are second-generation homeschoolers, as Emily graduated from HCS in 1995. The Welds have been homeschooling this current generation since 2010 and have been involved in many of the school's activities, including Class Day, Volleyball, Drama, and Choir. As a family, the Welds enjoy staying active through backpacking, sports, and spending time with extended family.
Over the years, the Welds have been encouraged by so many current and past HCS families. They are grateful for the work these families have done to build and maintain the school, along with the values and vision it upholds. The Welds cherish the Christian bonds and unity formed through Class Day and club activities, and Andy looks forward to serving this wonderful community. One of his favorite passages of scripture that has helped guide and shape him is Philippians 2: 3-11.
Andy serves as the Chief Investment Officer at Telos Capital Management, a wealth management firm in San Diego. He is blessed to have spent over 30 years in the financial services industry, guiding families and individuals toward their financial goals. Andy also serves as an Elder at his church and is on the Investment Advisory Committee at the San Diego Rescue Mission (SDRM).

Jonathan and Amy Whitt have been married for 23 years. Their daughter, Emery, joined HCS in 2024. Since then, the Whitts have wholeheartedly embraced the school’s mission and community.
Jonathan teaches a Current Events and Worldview class at San Diego Class Day, where he challenges and equips students to think critically and live with purpose. He is especially passionate about mobilizing the next generation to take the gospel to the nations, believing every young person has a role to play in God’s global mission.
Professionally, Jonathan serves as Senior Director of Development for Radical, helping lead efforts to make Jesus known in some of the hardest and most dangerous places in the world.
The Whitts are active members of Clairemont Emmanuel Baptist Church and have a deep love for the San Diego community. They are grateful to be part of the Heritage Christian family and excited to see how God will continue to work through HCS in the years ahead.

Jake and Allissa Womack have been married for 9 wonderful years and have seen God direct and orchestrate their lives for His glory. They are truly each other's best friends and love to share each moment and stage of life with each other. They have been blessed with 3 amazing children: Colton, Ellie, and Andrew.
Together, Jake and Allissa have committed themselves to homeschooling their children. Both being products of public school, Allissa in Davison, MI and Jake in San Diego, CA, they recognize and understand the importance of parents taking on the responsibility of teaching their children. Allissa was a kindergarten teacher, but has since answered the Lord’s call for her to teach her own children and to ensure that they receive a Christ-centered education. They are starting their second year with Heritage Christian Schools.
Jake has been a credentialed English teacher for San Diego Unified for 14 years and has seen first hand the positives and negatives of public school. Jake is currently the Dean of Students at an A-Typical school within SDUSD, and he sees the role of the family being active in a student's education more important than ever before.
As a family, the Womack’s enjoy camping, swimming, traveling, Little League, golf, bike riding, and many other outdoor activities. They drive to Michigan every summer to spend quality time with Allissa’s family and they enjoy stopping throughout the country to explore exciting places. They are blessed to call San Diego their home and have gained lifelong friendships through their church and through Heritage Christian.
