Our Mission

The HCS Band Program seeks to develop student musicians who grow in personal discipline and skill, perform quality music with the ensemble, develop meaningful relationships, and use their musical abilities to bring glory to our Father in Heaven.

Performances

Every school year there is a fall concert and a spring concert. Our bands may also play at HCS sports games, field trips, fundraisers, graduation ceremony, and other events.

Join A Band

Beginning Band is for is for beginning musicians 4th grade and up who are learning their instrument for the first time, or who need some additional practice on the music fundamentals.

Concert Band is open, by audition, to students 7th grade and up who have studied their instrument for at least two years.

Jazz Band is open, by audition, to Concert Band members in 8th grade and up. Students must be in Concert Band to participate in Jazz Band.

Band instruments include flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion (bell kit and snare drum). Students who play violin, viola, cello, or string bass may also audition for Concert Band.

Join Strings

String Ensemble is open to students 7th grade and up with at least one semester of private lessons. Younger students can request special permission to participate. String instruments include violin, viola, cello, and string bass.

Fees & Registration

$65/Year - Music Club Fee (billed once per student)
$50/Semester - Ensemble Fee (for each ensemble) 
$50/Semester - Director Fee

Meet Our Music Directors

Christa Beyenhof

Read Director Bio
Mrs. Beyenhof earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, and her Master’s of Music in Conducting from Southern Oregon University. She has led the Heritage Bands since 2018, and has taught for more than 20 years in Christian school music programs.

Christa and her husband, Brad, have five children, and they have been homeschooling with Heritage since 2016. They are a very musical family and they also enjoy HCS Volleyball and Drama, road trips, church activities, and family movie and game nights.
Strings Director

Genevieve James

Read Director Bio
Genevieve was born into a musical family and started playing violin at seven years old with the San Diego Suzuki Strings Ensemble. Since completing the Suzuki program, she has played with groups such as Grossmont Symphony Orchestra, East County Youth Symphony, Pacific Lyric Association, SDSU Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, Amicitia Chamber Orchestra, San Diego Philharmonic, and more. Genny received her Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from San Diego State University, where she studied under acclaimed musicians such as Michael Gerdes, Pei Chun Tsai, Isaac Allen and the Hausmann Quartet. She teaches violin privately and in group settings to students of all ages.
