The HCS Choir seeks to honor and glorify God through excellence in musical education and performance. Our goal is to provide students with musically enriching development and outreach opportunities within an environment that emphasizes reflecting the Gospel of Christ in personal and corporate relationships.
Choir practices will be held on Friday mornings at The Chapel at Grossmont Church in La Mesa, beginning on September 3, 2021.
My name is Jenny Shippee, and I am excited to be bringing Heritage Choir to our new Friday Morning Music Club. Here's a secret: I've never directed choirs before, so if you are nervous, don't be! We are going to be pioneers together. I started singing in choirs at age four, and currently perform on oboe, so I don't often have the opportunity to sing much, which is why I jumped at the opportunity to lead the vocal department at HCS. Being in choir is not about having a “perfect voice”; it is about learning to use the instrument God gave all of us to make awesome music together, to have fun doing it, and most of all, to glorify Him. Let's do this! It is going to be something special.
The Band and Choir Class Descriptions are available on the school's Homeschool Life website. You are welcome to go ahead and register at any time, although no fees will be due until September. Auditions for both choir and/or band will be held at The Chapel at Grossmont on Tuesday August 17th and 24th. A sign-up link will be posted on the Music Club Homeschool Life page and emailed to you when it is available.
Auditions: This is required; however, it is easy and fun. This choir audition will be simple. First, I get to meet you and you get to meet me. We will then do an exercise with the piano matching pitches. You can practice this skill at home to feel confident. After that, you will sing a short section of a song you LIKE to sing. This can be from any genre: perhaps a hymn, a song from Broadway, etc. No accompanying track is necessary unless you desire it. That's all there is to it!
