Getting together with our HCS friends doesn't stop at the end of the school year. Whether you like to lay back and enjoy the cool breeze, catch some waves, or work at getting your steps in, HCS members can enjoy staying connected through the summer by joining us on Beach Tuesdays and Thursdays, Hiking Thursdays, and/or Surfing Fridays. While others travel to our city for summer, get out and enjoy the perks of living in beautiful San Diego along side your HCS friends. IMPORTANT: These are family events and at least one parent must to be present with their child(ren) at all times. No drop-offs allowed.
Pack the kids, sunscreen, beach gear, lunch and head to the Beach. Join your HCS friends and make new friends at the beach every Tuesday of the summer.

This is a fairly easy 4.5 mile out-and-back trail on concrete with an elevation gain of 213 feet. Bike riding, strollers, and dogs on a leash are allowed.
Meet at the Mission Trails Regional Park Visitor Center Parking lot.
This is a moderate out-and-back dirt hiking and biking trail along the north and west shores of Lake Hodges near Escondido with minimal elevation gain. Dogs on leashes are welcomed. The parking lot and trailhead is located at 19320 Lake Drive, Escondido, 92029 and is across the street from Hernandez Hideaway Mexican Restaurant
This is a very easy, mostly flat walking/biking path along Mission Bay and is great for wheels! We will start at the Mission Bay Beach Club (formerly the Mission Bay Visitors Center) located at 2688 East Mission Bay Drive 92109 and make our way around D’Anza Cove to Crown Point Park for a 2.75 mile out-and-back. A small portion (about 5 blocks) of this trail is street-side thru the Crown Point neighborhood. (MOMS! There is a great little vegan coffee shop that just opened up at the Beach Club!)
This is a portion of the San Diego River Trail system that is moderate in hiking level and has a few different path surfaces and is a great place to spot local wildlife, plants/flowers, and native birds. There is a very moderate elevation gain and the trail mostly winds along the San Diego River. We will begin at the Town Center Ballfield, located at 550 Park Center Drive, Santee, 92071 and walk to Carlton Oaks Country Club Golf Course for a 4.5 mile out-and-back hike.
This recently created trail starts at the end of Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach and runs south along the cliffs. There is little to no elevation gain unless you want to drop down into the cliffs into some small sandy coves and beaches. This is a fairly short trail but there is a lot to explore. Please note that there are a few port-a-potties in the parking lot but otherwise, there are no restroom facilities.
The Tijuana River National Estuary is one of only 30 reserves in the United States! It is literally a “living laboratory”! The trail is mostly flat on gravel surfaces, but be aware that there might be a few damp places along the trail due to the natural damp surroundings. We will begin at the Visitor’s Center, located at 3rd Street and Caspian Way in Imperial Beach, where you can check out a pair of binoculars for those that might want to do some “birding” along the way!

Shelter Island is a narrow strip of land that originally was a sandbank in San Diego Bay but built up to dry land when the bay was dredged. It is now home to several hotels, restaurants, and marinas, and has a great hiking path right along the bay with amazing views of downtown and North Island Naval Air Station Cornado. It has been a filming location in several locally filmed movies, including “American Sniper”. The path is wide and well-maintained, good for wheels, and the breeze is great as well! We will walk the length of the island and back again (2.4 miles), beginning at the Bali Hai Restaurant parking lot located at 2230 Shelter Island Drive 92106. Dogs on a leash are allowed.
Meet Location: On the grass area by the north restrooms.
Dust off the surf suit and board and head out to catch some waves with your HCS friends.

Coronado Beach is located in the City of Coronado. This is a wide sandy beach, approximately 1.75 miles long. It is bordered on either edge by the United States' Naval Base beaches. Next to the famous Hotel del Coronado.
One of the highlights of camping at the lake is it's a place to relax, go on hikes, catch majestic sunsets as the sky turns shades of orange, pink, and purple, and enjoy the stars in the night. The lake is great for fishing. Anglers can catch Trout, Bass, Bluegill, Crappie, Catfish, and Sturgeon year-round.
Bring your bikes!
Torrey Pines State Beach lies at the bottom of the State Reserve and hiking trails, which are incredibly popular on most weekends. The sandy beach is located just north of downtown La Jolla and south of neighboring Del Mar. Like many La Jolla beaches, Torrey Pines Beach is very family-friendly and has several amenities. This is a great area to get the best of both worlds: hit the trails first and then head to the beach!
