Grading

Entering Grades: How to Enter Grades in the HCS Student Information System

Below are some resources and links to help you arrive at a grade for your students.

HSLDA Article "Grading Guidelines for High School", helpful for any grade.

Grading Key - A handy guide to what percentages equal what letter grade or ESN.

Course of Study

  • is a listing of all the subjects a student will be taking for the year.
  • a state requirement and mandatory for all HCS students.
  • must have been entered in order to input grades.
  • late fee incurred if not entered by October 1st.
  • entered via the Student Information System beginning September 1st.

How to enter the COS:

Please follow the simple steps below to enter your COS. The courses you enter will be the basis for entering your grades so you will want to make sure that it is correct.

I think you will find that entering your subjects is straight forward and easy. Let's get started

  • LOG INTO THE STUDENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
  • In your portal click the ”Course of Study” tab. (You will find these instructions there as well)
  • Then, Click the "Course of Study" link that you will see on the left
  • Select a student from the drop down list.
  • Subjects are listed on the left. Choose the subject and then select the course title. Enter the publisher or course details next.
  • Publisher Details: You don't need great details here.  For example, for Sonlight you would simply put Sonlight Grade 4.  Don't put all the readers & Usborne books that are used with it.
  • For high school credit courses you will want to enter the specific course titles.
    • High school classes are followed by a I,II,III or IV after the title.
    • An (H) after the course title signifies honors credit – not high school.
  • Continue this process for all the subjects that you will be covering for the year. Please make sure that all your courses are entered and correct as this will be basis for entering your grades – the subjects/course titles that you enter now will come up in your grading screen.
  • Please note that for elementary students there is an “add a subject” button. You can use this if you are doing more than one English course (reading/Literature, phonics, penmanship, etc). Hit the “add a subject” tab to enter your additional English courses. Art and music are listed under Visual Performing Arts. If you are doing both art and music, enter one of them and then again, just hit the “add a subject” tab and you can choose the additional visual performing art subject.
  • Once all subjects are entered hit the save button.
Once you have saved the course of study, you will be prompted to view the document. Click on this and you can view it and print it out for your file.
  • If you have multiple students, after you have saved your work, select the next student and follow the same process.

If you have any problems please don't hesitate to call the office, 858-541-2254
